Costing iphone 6 or telstra, optus, vodafone and virgin
 iphone 6
The flashy announcements are complete, the weeks and months of anticipation are over. The iPhone 6 is finally here and it’s time to get down to the nitty gritty. Exactly how much is this thing going to cost?

The new phone goes on sale next week (September 19) but on Friday the three big telcos in Australia – Vodaphone, Optus and Telstra – released figures for pricing and plans following Apple approval. Virgin have also confirmed that they will be stocking the gadget.

You’ve got a lot of choice this year, with no less than six options to pick from. Whether it’s the iPhone 6 or the iPhone 6 Plus, both will come with storage of either 16GB, 64GB or a mammoth 128GB.

We’re not even sure why someone would need 128GB, but it’s there. If you’re phone is chockers at 128GB though, you most likely have problems. Whether that’s overdependence on a small computer, or an inability to manage your life and buy an external hard drive, we won’t judge either way.

But enough about what the bloody thing offers. What’s it going to cost?

Well, the cheapest option, the iPhone 6 with 16GB storage, will set you back a cool $869. Meanwhile if you want to go all out with the iPhone 6 Plus and 128GB you’ll have to part with a hefty $1249.

Intense right? It’s a big price for something that fits in your pocket. Banks are going to licking their lips as people run their credit cards dry. But is it really worth buying the phone outright?

Unless you really hate being tied down to one provider, then signing a contract is probably the better option. In terms of cash-saving exercises it’s more or less going to cost you the same amount anyway, with the contract option slightly more expensive.

While it’s a dangerous game predicting how much iPhone contracts will cost, the most common thought on the rumour mill was that a 24-month plan will go close to costing $100 a month for the iPhone 6 Plus, and about $10 cheaper for the smaller model.

That includes the handset repayment fees.

The reveal didn’t disappoint, with the largest plans for the iPhone Plus around the $100 mark, while the largest plans for the 128gb iPhone 6 weighed in at $98 (those are Telstra’s numbers).

Friday revealed all, with all the major telcos preparing their pricing lists for an iPhone face-off. You’ll be able to start pre-ordering, and signing your hard earned away in one sweep or for the next two years.

As a small matter of interest, all major Telco sites struggled to keep up with the demand from the outset, with many users experiencing difficulty placing their order.

We’ll be updating the below as we get the full pricing information.
