Ibai:time for taking on Barcelona
After losing a close one at La Rosaleda, Athletic bounced back in style against Levante last time out, but now a trip to Catalonia to take on Barcelona awaits them – a team who aren't doing so bad themselves…

Speaking to Catalunya Radio, Gómez believes that despite the extremely difficult task of playing at the Camp Nou, Athletic are arriving in as good a shape as they could possibly be.

“We know what a spectacular team Barcelona are, they've been playing at an incredible level for almost a decade. We know it will be difficult to score at the Camp Nou, but we are arriving at a good time considering the form we are in.

I've seen them play this season under Luis Enrique and they do look different to last season. I think they've really improved their off-ball work since he arrived, they try to win it back a lot quicker now, much like they used to under Guardiola.

Barça are in a time of transition at the moment, but that doesn't mean they've stopped aspiring to win everything.”

Gómez started just 6 games in La Liga for Athletic last season but looks set to be a more integral figure for Ernesto Valverde this season, despite not yet nailing down a starting spot. He scored the sealing goal against Napoli last month to ensure Athletic will play in the Champions League this year.
