Italians celebrate 70th anniversary of Liberation Day
Italians are celebrating the 70th anniversary of Liberation Day. Ceremonies are being held to mark the uprising against the Nazis and their Fascist allies in 1945. President Sergio Mattarella lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Rome. Within days of the uprising, Benito Mussolini was captured and killed. He was hanged along with his mistress in a square in Milan. April 25 is an annual public holiday in Italy.
