Egypt reaches new seawater desalination technology
The Desert Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced the success of an Egyptian research team to develop a new seawater desalination technology, reduce the cost of producing salt water unit and increase the local component for the production and manufacture of this technology locally for the first time with Egyptian expertise instead of relying on two sources of desalination technology From the United States of America, Japan and South Korea.

This came during the inauguration of the Scientific Forum of the National Alliance for Knowledge and Technology in the field of Desalination to discuss the Alliance's efforts to deepen the local industrialization of desalination plants, and Dr. Naeem Meselhi, head of the Desert Research Center.

Dr. Naeem Meselhi, Head of Desert Research Center, and Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, attended the first phase of the National Alliance for Knowledge and Technology in Water Desalination, As the Desert Research Center, the general coordinator of the alliance, and presented Naeem Meselhi, plans and projects of the Desert Research Center current and future, especially with regard to water desalination and its relationship to the comprehensive development of the Egyptian deserts.

During the visit, the President of the Academy of Scientific Research met with the leaders of the research teams of the alliance. He explained during the meeting the purpose of the national alliances funded by the Academy in the current and future phases, and the development projects and initiatives financed by the Academy.

Dr. Hossam Shawky, Director of the Egyptian Center of Excellence for Desalination Research at the Desert Research Center and the main investigator of the Desalination Alliance, presented a comprehensive presentation on the alliance, including the project partners, the most important expected outputs and plans for achieving these outputs. Diversity of academics, industry and civil society organizations and a final user in homogeneity to achieve a goal or set of objectives.

Shawki also presented the joint cooperation of the team of the Desert Research Center and the Assiut University team, which led to the success of the research team led by Assiut University in acquiring the knowledge of the manufacture of the machine for winding the reactive membranes, and the success of the research team of the Desert Research Center for the first time in Egypt Wrap the 4-inch and 8-inch reflective pressure membranes used in desalination plants, and will witness the presence of membrane-wrapped membranes at different stages.

Dr. Hossam Shawky, Director of the Egyptian Center of Excellence for Desalination Research, said that the economics of wrapping the membranes provide 60% of the value of the imported membranes from abroad. The researcher explained that what has been achieved is one phase of 3 stages, Nominal pressure.

The Academy of Scientific Research is very interested in the Desalination Alliance, for the importance of its outputs for the Egyptian water security. The Academy is sparing no effort to support this alliance. The Desert Research Center puts all its scientific, human and logistical resources to support the success of the alliance. At the end of the tour, Accompanied by Dr. Mahmoud Saqr and guests of the Center members of the alliance, laboratories and workshops of the Egyptian Center for Excellence in Desalination Research. The audience listened to an explanation by Dr. Hossam Shawky about the possibilities available at the center and the most important researches and projects that are being witnessed and plans for future expansion.
