Washington arrests a militant accused of a Benghazi attack on the US consulate in 2012
US special operations forces detained a militant believed to have played a role in an attack on a US diplomatic complex in Benghazi in 2012 that killed US ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, a US official said.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said US forces had detained the militant in Libya.

The mother of US Ambassador Christor Stevens, who was killed in a 2012 Benghazi attack, demanded Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to stop exploiting the death of her son in his campaign.

In a letter to the New York Times on Saturday, Mary Comande, Staines' mother, wrote in a letter to the New York Times that she objected to any mention by Trump or the Republican Party of her son's name or death in a Benghazi attack in Libya.

"I know that Chris did not want to use his name or mention it in such a thing," the mother said in her letter, "I hope that Trump's campaign will stop immediately and permanently from the abhorrent abuse of my son's name."
