Miss Universe 2017: the French Iris Mittenaere wins the election
Miss France 2017, aka Iris Mittenaere, wins the 2016 Miss Universe crown and succeeds Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. A first since 1953.

France won the title of Miss Universe on January 30, 2017. Iris Mittenaere, aka Miss France 2016, succeeds the Philippines candidate Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, Miss Universe 2015, Miss Colombia and Miss Haiti. This is only the second time France has won the election since the victory of Christiane Martel in 1953. Last year, Flora Coquerel, French representative, was third runner-up.

The French candidate among the favorites

France had reason to believe in the coronation of Iris Mittenaere. The pretty brunette ranked first in many polls of the Miss Universe 2016 election. A victory to which Sylvie Tellier dreamed for 12 years as she explained on Sunday on her Instagram account, posting a picture of the election the year last. "Last year, Flora Coquerel offered us a very nice place of 3rd Dauphine, this year I dare to dream of the Miss Universe crown, so proud of our Miss, 12 years that I am waiting for this gift!"
