Russia invited the United States to fight together in Iraq with the IG
The Russian Defense Ministry is ready to conduct a dialogue with US counterparts about assisting them in the destruction of militants of the terrorist group "Islamic State" (IG, banned in Russia) in the western regions of Iraq.

On Wednesday, December 6, said the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, Army General Valery Gerasimov, RIA Novosti.

According to the general, the international coalition's attention should not be focused on deploying its military bases in Syria, but on the destruction of militants in the western regions of Iraq to prevent the return of IG to Syria and to exclude the revival of the "caliphate" there.

"We are ready to conduct a dialogue and join our American colleagues in resolving this issue," the high-ranking military official said at the annual briefing for foreign military attaches.

Earlier on December 6 Gerasimov announced the complete liberation of Syria from the terrorists of the IG. According to him, the troops of General Hasan Suhel and the 5th Volunteer Assault Corps defeated the remnants of militants in the province of Deir ez Zor and liberated the settlements of Salihia, El-Khite, El-Katya and Musalaha. After that they joined with the government troops advancing from the south. "Thus, for today the territory under the control of the IG does not exist in Syria," the chief of the General Staff stated.

On November 23, it was reported that the Iraqi army had launched an operation to destroy the last groups of militants who had fled to the desert. "The goal of the campaign is to prevent the remaining groups from hiding in the desert and using it as a base for future attacks," said Iraqi army colonel Salah Kareem.
