CAIRO: Egyptian international star Mohamed Salah has been named winner of the FIFA Player of the Year award after being selected as part of the 11-man squad for the award, after being reduced to 30 players.
Salah's candidacy came in the final list along with:
Bertrand Traore of Burkina Faso and Lyon of France
Denis Onyango of Uganda and Sun Downs of South Africa
Karim Al-Ahmadi of Morocco and Feyenoord of Holland
Keita Baldi of Senegal and Monaco
Napa Keita of Guinea and Leipzig of Germany
Pierre Emeric Obamyang, Gabon and Borussia Dortmund striker
Senegal striker Sadeo Mani and Liverpool
Victor Moses of Nigeria and Chelsea
Vincent Abou Bakr, Cameroon striker and Porto Portugal
Yaseen Brahmi striker of Algeria and Porto Portugal
On the other hand, a number of Al Ahly players continued to be nominated for the African Player of the Year award, after being reduced to 10 players, including Maloual, Ahmed Fathi and Junior Ajay.
Among the most prominent candidates for the award were Ashraf Afraouki, Morocco's Wydad, Denis Onyango, Egypt's Al-Portsaid striker, and Manchester United striker Mohamed Ongam.
The two lists are to be reduced again, according to the vote of the technical managers of the continent's teams, the technical directors of the national federations, the national team leaders and ten prominent journalists in CAF. The awards will be distributed at the ceremony held by CAF in Ghana on January 4.
