India News: Rahul Gandhi President Congress
NEW DELHI, 11 DEC - Rahul Gandhi has today become the new president elected by the historic party of the Indian Congress (INC) in New Delhi, currently in opposition.

This was announced by the president of the Central Election Commission for this political formation, Mullappally Ramachandran.

The election of the son of Sonia Gandhi, who is 47 years old and is not married, has become automatic because at the present deadline of the presentation of candidacies for the office, no other personality of the party has come forward.

This is the sixth member of the Nehru-Gandhi family (only distantly related to the Mahatma) to assume the important office. The other five were: Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.

The latter was the longest running, keeping the presidency for 19 years. The transmission of the command between mother and child, has finally been learned, will happen next December 16th.
