Trump signs new penal code on Lebanese Hezbollah, US President Donald Trump signed a new penal code on Lebanese Hezbollah targeting anyone who finances, deals with or supplies weapons to the party.

The US-based Al Hurra television said on Friday that the new sanctions adopted by the US president aim to limit the party's ability to obtain funding and recruit its members and pressure the banks and countries it deals with, chiefly Iran.

The US Senate voted on a bill on October 12 and was followed by a vote in the House of Representatives in September. The law targets those who fund and supply weapons, a reinforced version of previous sanctions, but tougher.

The event held on Thursday marked the 35th anniversary of the attack on US Marine barracks in Beiru. During the event Donald Trump said, “Over the past year we have levied the highest sanctions ever imposed on Hezbollah — in a single year, by far. Just a few moments ago, I signed legislation imposing even more hard-hitting sanctions on Hezbollah to further starve them of their funds. And they are starving for them.”

According to a CNN report, Senator Marco Rubio who is a Florida Republican has sponsored the Hizballah International Financing Prevention Amendments Act. The bill imposes financial and economic sanctions on Hezbollah and also has ramped up the reporting requirements. President Trump added, “We will target, disrupt and dismantle their operational and financing efforts, of which they have plenty and we will never forget what they did to our Marines in Beirut.”

With the sanctions imposed, Hezbollah will stay aloof from the international financial system, stated Sarah Sanders, the press secretary of White House. The aim of the sanctions is to reduce the funding made to Hezbollah.
