    The death of George HW Bush comes months after the death of his 73-year-old wife, Barbara Bush, in April.

    George Bush has five sons and 17 grandchildren. The family said arrangements for his funeral would be announced soon.

    For his part, Donald Trump Saturday mourned former President George HW Bush, praising his "unwavering commitment".

    "With his integrity, his spirit and his unwavering commitment to faith, family and his country, President Bush has inspired generations of American citizens," Trump said in a statement from Buenos Aires, where he is attending the G20 summit.

    After eight years as vice president Ronald Reagan, George Bush became the 41st president of the United States.

    His presidential term, which lasted from 1989 to 1993, coincided with the end of the cold war. In 1990, he declared the "New World Order" and led the campaign to remove Iraqi forces from Kuwait, but saw intervention in the Middle East as a harbinger of future chaos.

    Bush, who had previously been a war pilot and CIA director, was not elected for a second term. He was defeated in 1992 by his Democratic rival Bill Clinton.
